10 Reasons Why the PS3 Slim Will Save Sony

In a recent PC World article, one of my colleagues suggested that the “Slimmed PS3 Won’t Save Sony.” Let’s play devil’s advocate and consider the alternative, which is that it will, with an appended “and then some.” Sony just slashed the price of its flagship console by $100, a full 25% drop, significant by any measure. For 300 bones, you can have a Blu-ray playback device with integrated wireless, 1080p HDMI output, a 120GB upgradeable (within warranty) hard drive, and free online multiplayer et al. support. Not too shabby.

Sony’s has its work cut out, to be sure, but the PS3 Slim knocks the legs out from under the “boutique pricing” caveat. In fact I think the Slim puts Sony back in the game with bells on, whether Microsoft pulls the trigger on a 360 Elite price drop (from $400 to $300) or not.

Gamespot Reviews ‘Batman: Arkham AsylumYou’ve heard of Batman no doubt, but if you don’t read comics, it’s conceivable that you might be unfamiliar with Arkham Asylum. The iconic psychiatric hospital is essentially Gotham City’s Alcatraz, and it has housed just about every villain Batman has ever tangled with at one time or another. Now, thanks to Eidos and developer Rocksteady, Arkham is also the setting for a great third-person action game in which the lunatics take over the asylum and only you can stop them.

As Batman, you not only get to go toe-to-toe with thugs in fast-paced punch-ups, but you also employ satisfying stealth tactics, play with great gadgets, solve some remarkable riddles, and do a decent amount of detective work. In short, you get to do all of the things that you want to when you don a Batman costume in a game, provided you weren’t hoping to get behind the wheel of the batmobile.

Super Mario World legacy and impact

The game has often been compared to Super Mario Bros., in the sense that both games established the standard for all subsequent side-scrollers released on their respective systems.

In addition, with the augmented capabilities of the SNES, Super Mario World advanced the graphics in Mario games. All of the objects and characters in the game moved from flat sprites to a more three-dimensional look. Super Mario World also used the SNES’s multiple background layers for parallax scrolling and other background effects such as sparkling stars, as well as occasional sprite scaling and rotation effects.

A copy of Super Mario World came with each Super Nintendo upon the system’s release in Europe and America.^{[citation needed]} A prequel was made in 1995 entitled Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island featuring Yoshi as the main protagonist.

In 2009, a poll conducted by British movie magazine Empire voted it “the greatest game of all time.

Microsoft working with Ghost in the Shell, Dragon Ball studios on collection of short films; 343 Industries revealed to be Halo publishing brand; teaser trailer inside.

Between this year’s Halo Wars and Halo: ODST, Microsoft is working to establish a universe for its blockbuster sci-fi series extending significantly beyond the Master Chief character. Today the company revealed another step toward that, with the announcement of Halo Legends, an anime anthology focusing on different times, locations, and characters in the universe.

Like previous anime anthologies, The Animatrix and Batman: Gotham Knights, Halo Legends taps a variety of notable Japanese creators and animation studios to produce short films for a compiled home-video release. Directors Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) and Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell) will be working on the project, as will familiar studios like Production I.G. (Blood: The Last Vampire), Studio4˚C (Tekkonkinkreet), Toei Animation (Dragon Ball), Casio Entertainment (visual effects work on Big Man Japan), and Bones (Cowboy Bebop: The Movie).

Nintendo shatters dreams, has “no plans” to ship black Wii console in USA

Seriously Nintendo, what is it? Do you hate freedom? Are you still bitter about the US reception to your underwhelming GameCube? Whatever the case, we’re never going to forgive you for this one. After waiting for years for a Wii in any color other than glossy white, it seems that only the Japanese will be able to enjoy the sleek, sexy and altogether drool-worthy black Wii console. In fact, a rep for the Big N informed GameDaily that there are “no plans to have other colors of the Wii in the United States.” As for us? We’re plugging our ears and pretending this “individual” has no idea what he / she is talking about. And weeping, uncontrollably.
